Joke upon your friends with High-Tech USB prank device

While most of the gadgets are interesting and convenient helpers, there are some of them that exist only for pranks. Looking like usual devices, they have strange or annoying functions hidden inside. Their main purpose is to prank on a friend's or foe's computer, to annoy them and to laugh on it afterward. They often are not hazardous, and do some simple but annoying actions. Like this one - it is camouflaged to look just like a simple and harmless USB thumb drive, however it carries a big amount of hidden functions that no one is aware of.

Named Phantom Keystroker, it uses one USB port to connect to the target's PC. When it's connected, it will be recognized by PC as a USB keyboard and mouse, and will stay hidden until time comes. Then it will anger the user by typing the odd and random text, moving the mouse cursor randomly and toggling caps lock - all of these combined would ensure user that his PC is infected by virus, or it was hacked. But no antivirus software will locate the source of this mess, because Phantom Keystroker operates on a hardware side, not software. With a set of special buttons on its side it is possible to adjust its behavior and set a time delay, which will be useful to provide an alibi or to prolong the joke. Imagine the fury of the user, when after hours of intensive system clean-up he will discover a strange USB thumb drive, connected to his PC!

While it is meant to be a harmless joke, it is not recommended to use this at work. Of course, it is very tempting to joke like that on your colleagues, but it is wise to keep in mind that such things may not go unpunished. Victim also can become very angry after all these actions, so choose wisely place and time to joke. This device can be purchased for 15 dollars.

Sound Chair + iMac touchscreen

Listing to the music is a great way to spend your free time. If you are not fond of heavy beat party sounds, then you might have though that listing to the music of any genre of it shouldn't be a trail for your body. And that is what the Sound Chair's developers must have considered. The Sound Chair is widely known as a multi functional gadget – a stylish piece of furniture and a hi-fi stereo system carrier. Such kind of two-in-one combination is a rear thing to happen. However, The Sound Chair has just made it to its upgraded version, which means it is quite popular, and the new model will probably be even more popular because of 20 inch touchscreen built in.
\
But for the touchscreen, former Sound Chair is now called the Sound Chair Touch. From the first glance only the 20 inch iMac touchscreen is seen as new thing in it. Actually, there is not much more of news about it. It is still a chair that judging by design came down from a UFO, or from another place like it, and is still offered only with leather and suede inside. All the materials, by the way, are of a very high quality, so they will not call to any censure. In rest, the Sound Chair Touch has a standard pack for multimedia amusement. The bendable iMac display connector wires it to a PC with ATI Radeon 2400 XT GPU, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz processor, 250 GB on internal HDD and 1 GB of RAM. Good enough for a home PC, but we are not dealing with one. That is the price I am getting at. Rumors are speaking of five figures on the price tag. That's more then ten grand for a smart and fashionable piece of furniture. One must really like the Sound Chair Touch to buy one.

New TRRAM chips for a transparent phones

Usually, concepts, while looking curious and interesting, rarely make their way from the paper to the real device. Not so long ago, when Nokia Morph pictures hit the net, it was clearly obvious that it is just an original idea, nothing more. How an electronic device would be fully transparent? However, due to recent technological developments, we possibly have a chance to see it implemented in real life, or even buy it!

Scientists from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology made a revolutionary discovery that can be used to bring all these concepts of transparent devices to life. It is called TRRAM (Transparent Resistive Random Access Memory), and is almost fully transparent, while operating just like normal non-transparent chips. It is similar to usual CMOS chips in functionality, so it can be easily used in manufacturing various devices, cell phones included.

As stated by Jung Won Seo, one of the Korean researchers: “It is a new milestone of transparent electronic systems. By integrating TRRAM device with other transparent electronic components, we can create a total see-through embedded electronic system.”

This development can truly revolutionize the world of modern devices and gadgets. With transparent chips it will be possible to implement electronic hardware into the windshield of a car; it can be used in sunglasses or highly-fashioned transparent cell phones. It really widens the area in which electronic devices can be implemented, making many concepts look much closer to the real life. Bendable screens, transparent chips - all these improvements are making electronics more flexible and easy to use.

Transparent chips have some disadvantages though: transparent phones would be much easier to hide or lose, and how do you solder a chip if it is fully transparent? Of course, these are not serious, hope that technology doesn't have any major disadvantages that will prevent it from being widely used. First devices on these chips would appear no sooner than after 3 - 4 years, so let's wait until TRRAM will be used in a working prototype.

Start-up Meraki to sell solar-powered Wi-Fi gear

Mesh Wi-Fi provider Meraki is going green with a new solar-powered repeater.
The company, which builds low-cost and easy-to-manage Wi-Fi gear, said the Meraki Solar Wi-Fi repeater will ship starting December 4. The price of the solar repeater costs between $749 and $1,499.

Sanjit Biswas, co-founder and CEO of Meraki, said he expects customers in developing markets, where power infrastructure is not reliable or nonexistent, to be especially interested in the product. But he said that there has also been interest among customers here in the U.S. and other developed markets.

"Some people might want to set up a Wi-Fi on their roof or somewhere else they don't have power," he said. "And then they realize how much it will cost them to get an electrician to wire that area."

news from here.

For this reason, Biswas said that the Meraki Solar repeater is ideal for installations in places like city parks. Even the higher initial cost of the solar equipment will still be cheaper than running power to bay stations and radios throughout a large area like Central Park in New York, he said.

Meraki had announced its solar-powered product last year. But the product was delayed when the company decided to change battery types after receiving feedback that the batteries ran out of power too quickly. The company now uses lithium iron-phosphate, which gives it greater capacity. Biswas says the new battery can store enough energy to power the Wi-Fi radios 24 hours a day seven days a week even during times of limited sunlight.

In addition to its solar-powered repeater, Meraki introduced a new Wi-Fi radio wall plug, which features a hole to screw the unit to an outlet. The design is part of Meraki's push to sell its gear to apartment buildings and complexes. The company has been experimenting with product designs and ideas for better coverage in multiple dwelling units as part of the free network it offers to San Francisco.

Earlier this year, Meraki announced it would help the city provide free Internet access to low-income housing projects as part of its plan to unwire every neighborhood in San Francisco. Meraki, which is based in the Bay Area, sees the San Francisco Wi-Fi network as an important test bed for its products and services.

BlackBerry Storm

There was endless speculation regarding the pricing of the BlackBerry Storm, and the only way to silence the speculation is to release the official price, which is what Verizon has just done. The BlackBerry Storm will be going for $199 with a two-year contract, after a mail-in rebate. With a price like that, it looks like RIM is serious on taking on the iPhone and defending its corporate dominance. It’s good to see that even with the $199 pricepoint, Verizon didn’t skimp on the accessories, as they’ve bundled an 8GB microSD card with the phone. The BlackBerry Storm will be available online and in stores from November 21st.

Roundup: Checkpoint-friendly computer bags

Regular Crave readers have seen a steady stream of products unveiled in the months since the Transportation Security Administration issued guidelines for "checkpoint friendly" bags, which let you zip through airport security checkpoints without removing your laptop.

Eager to see how manufacturers would tackle the new product category, we obtained a handful of bags--from the huge Mobile Edge ScanFast Backpack to the tiny Solo Netbook Mini--for real-world testing. At first we were concerned that TSA agents wouldn't know about the new bag designs and would make us remove our laptops anyway. But we carried several of these bags on business trips and cruised through the checkpoints without incident.

So, if you're a frequent flyer or shopping for one of these bags, check out the latest checkpoint-friendly bag reviews.

Shuttle Mini PC D10 will arrived soon

Quite a surprising premiere is waiting just round the bend. It is Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH that presents its latest gadget. Shuttle Mini PC D10 will be unveiled at this weekend but only for Japanese market. Unfortunately there is no clear word about when and where else D10 will be available to buy. But there might be a clue to get in Shuttle’s august worldwide press release about Shuttle Mini PC solutions. The fact that it was, ones again, worldwide, leaves us the message. So, D10 combines some interesting solutions for home and office use for temperate 330 Euros (price in Japan) with not much drawbacks to worry about.

First of all let’s mark that yes, D10 looks like it came here from late 80’s. Why its design is so plain remains an opened question. Probably Shuttle doesn’t emphasize modern design streams but its utility which is really on a high level. No mouse or keyboard are required for the device – embedded screen is a Barebone D10 versatile platform touch screen. It has 7 inches and 800 x 480 resolution. Mini PC reads most high-res media formats (blue-ray also) has a television tuner, remote control and a special output for an additional display. USB hosts, of course, up to four of them.

D10 is planed to be a surveillance helper. It can operate up to 16 CC-TV cameras via wireless Z-Wave home network technology or directly from the touch screen. Plus you can program it to control more household activities like video recording, alarm, lighting, etc, and probably save some money on electricity. All features from above will be shown at the gadget’s presentation.

The "insides" of the Shuttle D10 Mini PC are going to be serious. 2GB Ram, latest video cards and three processors: Intel Core Duo E4000 and E2000 series or Celeron 400.

And all these at a very attractive price for graphic plaques from mainstream category.

4600 graphic plaque series are practically limited versions of 4800 series, with what AMD succeeded to overcome those from Nvidia. They are based on TeraScale graphic processor, realized in 55 nm and with 320 stream processors that is a modified RV770.

ATI Radeon HD 4670 works at a 750 MHz nuclear frequency, 2 GHz memory frequency, has a memory interface on 256 bits, and can include 512 MB or 1 GB of GDDR3 memory.

Less powerful version, ATI Radeon HD 4650, has a 600MHz nuclear frequency, 1GHz memory frequency, memory interface on 128 bits and includes 512 MB of GDDR2 memory.

Both of these plaques have 320 stream processors, 32 texture units and support DirectX 10.1, include Unified Video Decoder (UVD) 2.0 for HD video processing and HDMI 7.1 surround sound audio.

Plaques have a reduce power consumption, 60 W for 4670 and 50 W for 4650. Prices are extremely attractive, being smaller than initial estimations. So, HD 4670 with 512 MB of memory costs 80 dollars (version with 1 GB will appear later), and HD 4650 has a price of 60 dollars.

From initial reviews performance of these gadgets seems to be excellent, considering low power consumption and price. So HD 4670 is situated somewhere among Radeon HD 3650 or GeForce 9500 GT and Radeon HD 3850 or GeForce 9600 GT/GSO in some tests even overcoming them.

new iPod Nano, iPod Touch 2G and iTunes 8

Apple Let's Rock event was very anticipated by every Apple fan or gadget lover, because this is the place to announce new products, models and services. And this time it was really worth waiting for: new iPod Nano 4G, redesigned iPod Touch, small update of Classic and a lot of new colors for Shuffle... Firmware update for iPhone along with iPod Touch, which carries number 2.1, and new version of iTunes program - these announcements would be enough for several events! However, they all came together at once, and this is the small roundup of all announcements made at this Apple event.

Pictures of new iPod Nano made a big buzz in the Internet not so long ago, making this announcement the most anticipated. New Nano was certainly worth waiting for. It is now taller than 3G, and the sides are slightly curved. But what is really different is the screen layout - now it is portrait instead of landscape. Built-in accelerometer controls the display and turns image if iPod is turned on side, making the movie playback more comfortable. Controls are also shifted to match the image on the screen. It supports all iPod Nano 3G games, however, they must be played in landscape mod. New Nano has totally revamped interface, somehow resembling that seen on the iPod Touch. Battery life was increased, and now it is 24 hours for music and 4 hours for video. Even with a hardware upgrade, Nano 4G remained very thin, thinner than any other music player on the market. Prices were announced too - 8 GB will be sold for 149 USD, 16 GB - for 199 USD.

With its new model lineup, Apple introduced a new and interesting feature for all of its music players - Genius mode. This is a feature that will be familiar to all Last.fm users - it can make up smart playlists from songs that go great together. When turned on in the iTunes, it sends information from your music library to Apple, synchronizing with their online database and making a playlist that is made perfectly for your taste. Maybe it won't make the perfect playlist the first time, but it will evolve as more songs are collected in the online database. All new player models have that feature in menu - iPod Nano, Classic and Touch.

Classic upgrade was least interesting than others, because the only change is its capacity - now it is 120 GB. It supports all new features including Genius mode, has improved battery life and that's all. Prices are already available - 120 GB model will be sold for 250 USD. Same for Shuffle - it will have no hardware updates at all, Apple just increased the amount of color options, so you can select from four new colors - vibrant blue, green, pink, and red.

iPhone and iTouch firmware upgrade is almost completely a bug-fix release, which removes existing bugs, enables Genius mode, improves battery life and backup speed. It will be free for all iPhone users, but if you own iTouch you will need 10 dollars to buy this upgrade. iPod Touch also had some small update - WiFi antenna looks much better integrated, internal speakers sound better, and it is even thinner now.

iTunes was also reworked, and new, 8 version of famous music manager brings a lot of new interesting options. First of all, it supports brand new Genius feature, helping to collect data for this service to operate correctly. Another new feature found is new method of browsing your music collection, named Grid view. It can display all your albums in grid and gives you possibility to change the size of grid elements so you can navigate through your collection more comfortably. New Genius sidebar can offer you songs from iTunes Store based on your musical tastes, so you would easily discover new music that you will probably like. Visualizer was also improved, now it is way more beautiful and entertaining.

This year's Apple Let's Rock event was rich for new announcements. New and greatly improved interface of iPod Nano, new Genius function, firmware update for iPhone and iTouch, and a new version of iTunes program - many updates for one event, don't you think? Unfortunately, iPod Classic update was very minor, but does it have the need in major redesign? Don't fix what is already working great, that is the main strategy for Apple at this point. Even if new Nano looks so similar to Microsoft Zune, it is still Apple, and it does have many things Zune hasn't - including huge worldwide fan base. So let's wait for other big announcements from Apple - maybe they will include the clipboard ability in the iPhone at last?

Electronic newspaper

For centuries newspapers were biggest source of information - even in the age of Internet and TV they are still very popular. Of course, we can browse to one of the many news sites, but reading newspaper is not just about getting information, it is the feeling of some sort. That's why books are popular even if many of us can read from cellphone's screen. However, such as paper books evolved in eReaders, newspapers must be upgraded too. In any case, that is how Plastic Logic thinks. They made a concept of how modern newspaper must look like, and it is pretty interesting.

Plastic Logic's gadget is a electronic newspaper reader, which is not limited to reading only newspapers - it can show any MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF file. It is made from light and bendable plastic, and equipped with large E-Ink display. Device is pretty large, 21,5 õ 28 cm, so you will be able to read big PDFs and newspaper feeds with comfort. Gadget will have wireless internet capabilities, so news can be downloaded automatically. Unfortunately, this reader will not be able to show colored photographs from articles, but who knows; maybe E-Ink technology will be able to do that pretty soon? Technical parameters are unknown yet, it will be very interesting to know, how much internal memory will it have, and how long battery life will be. Who would need a newspaper that can turn off while reading an interesting article?

Electronic newspaper will not remain just an idea; its first prototypes will be shown on the CES exhibition in January, 2009. Plastic Logic expects to ship it to the stores in the first half of 2009, so we will meet these electronic newspapers very soon. Company claims, that this product is universal, because everybody reads newspapers. Would electronic newspapers take place of their paper counterparts? Maybe yes, maybe not. In any case, it will be a very interesting gadget to have.

new OLPC rival - Spark

There was big fuzz in the Internet when the OLPC project started; idea of making a 100 dollar priced laptop to help children of Africa and other poor regions become closer to Internet and computer technologies was very innovative and interesting. Now it is time to announce some of its competitors. We already reviewed top 10 subnotebooks; you can read about them here, however, this one is a very different issue. It brings the low cost educational subnotebook to the UMPC side, making it even more portable. Let's look at the details.

It is currently only a concept, but it looks very promising. It is called Spark, and is maintained by Project Inkwell and Ideo designers. It can be called a UMPC rather than a laptop, all because of its very portable size - it is comparable to Sony PSP. Bright and wide color screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built-in, even full QWERTY keyboard and wireless mouse - all these will be parts of this device. Spark is a part of new educational project, and is made to help children younger then 12 learning. It wins in size and portability if compared to OLPC XO-1 - it can be carried in pocket easily.

Unfortunately this is only a concept for now. It is unknown, what technical parameters it will have, and how high the price will be. But if this gadget wants to be successful rival of the OLPC, it must be priced not higher than 100-150 dollars. It will most likely run on Linux or Linux-based OS to reduce cost of final device, taking in consideration its small size it may not be compatible with existing OLPC software. Time will tell how successful the ideas of Project Inkwell will be, but it is a good sign that computer manufacturers started to think about low cost educational computers - our children are our future and we must do everything to make it brighter by helping them.

Samsung Omnia

It seems that ASUS has some aces in sleeve when it is time to talk about touchscreen terminals and it is not only the P552W model but also a new handset Asus Galaxy7.

The Asian company is planning to launch a terminal that will be a rival for Samsung Omnia and that includes a touchscreen (WQVGA or WVGA) plus a 5 MP camera, a trackball for a non-touch navigation and 3G connectivity and WiFi. The list of specifications is ending yet here, but speculations continue till we wait an official announce from the ASUS.

We hope that the new handset will be at least the same competitive as others recently launched Windows Mobile terminals especially in memory capacity and processor performance. If we talk about the interface we hope that ASUS will be a viable alternative that will perfectly suite to Windows Mobile 6.1 OS.

Nokia New Headsets

Nokia has just released two new headsets that makes sure your MP3 listening experience does not interfere with an incoming call and vice versa. I guess it pretty much works in the same manner as the current headphones that come with Nokia's N Series handsets, allowing your MP3 file to continue where it was stopped once you hang up the call. The Nokia WH-600 and WH-700 are headphone cans and in-ear models respectively, featuring in-line volume controls.

Too bad they're still shackled by a wired connection - somewhat amounting to a no-no in this day and age where Bluetooth and RF reign supreme.

SanDisk's Sansa Fuze

Check it -- HandStands isn't just making kit for items not yet conceived. Oh no, SanDisk's Sansa Fuze is indeed more than a figment of someone's clever imagination. Buffalo's 500GB MiniStation TurboUSB External HDD

Although Buffalo managed to squeeze one whole terabyte of storage into its new LinkStation Mini, the firm is looking to give the bytes within its latest external drive a bit more breathing room. The 500GB MiniStation TurboUSB is a touch more capacious than the previous 320GB king, and as with other TurboUSB devices, it supposedly offers up "30-percent faster transfer rates than most USB hard drives."

Additionally, the firm throws in its own Shock Resistant technology along with its SecureLockWare in order to prevent "unauthorized access in the event the drive is lost or stolen." Heck, you'll even find Memeo's AutoBackup right in the box, and as for the box itself, look for it to land later this month for a cool $329.

First in the world cellphone with built-in projector

News about concept GSM phones with projectors inside was around for a while; however, there was no information about how soon these concepts will turn into serial models. Well, Chinese manufacturers are first to introduce this idea into life. First cell phone with built-in projector is already being sold, and its parameters are quite interesting.

This Chinese marvel is named Epoq EGP-PP01, and it is first cell phone in the world with built-in projector. Its characteristics are amazing for its small sizes: it can produce image in VGA resolution (640 x 480)! This was made possible by using miniature LCoS projector, and a very bright LED as a source of light. Maximum distance from phone to the projected surface is 762 mm, or 30 inches. Built-in battery will last for nearly 3 hours when projector is working, which is enough for presentation or movies. Thanks to the USB port, gadget can be connected to DVD player, laptop or PC, to project information that phone cannot read by itself. It can show video and photo without any external help, so it can be useful when you want to show your new photos and videos to some friends or colleagues.

Apart from the amazing projecting ability, phone also has touchscreen (as almost any new Chinese phone does today), camera, 0.5 Watt dynamics and a very familiar interface, that was fully copied from the world's most famous smartphone - iPhone. Not sure, would Apple sue manufacturers of this device for stealing their intellectual property, but if this phone will be sold only inside the country there will be no problems for Epoq at all. They tried to experiment with the phone buttons like many other Chinese phone manufacturers, placing them in a strange unfamiliar pattern - in three rows. Nevertheless, getting familiar with this button placement it is only a matter of time.

Not sure, will this idea of placing projectors inside cell phones be successful, but this interesting gadget deserves some attention. Maybe tomorrow these mobile projectors will be as common as cell phone cameras nowadays? In any case, you can touch to the future now for 550 dollars.

Recently released USB 3.0 technology will increase the speed tenfold!

Majority of modern gadgets connect to the computer via USB cable. For nearly 13 years this port has been standard for all external devices. When USB was introduced in 1995, it became clear that this port would replace all those big and bulky connectors that were used in the past. Data exchange speed was growing with every generation: from 12 Mbps in USB 1.1 to 480 Mbps in USB 2.0. Nevertheless, as time goes by, bigger and bigger speeds are needed. Therefore, after 8 years of reigning, USB 2.0 must be replaced with something more modern and powerful, and this new successor will be USB 3.0, which is already developed and soon will be widely supported by hardware developers. What advantages it brings? Let us see.

USB 2.0 was named Hi-Speed, and it surely is quite fast. USB 3.0, however, truly deserves its title Superspeed, because it strongly overlaps the speed of its predecessor! New USB 3.0 devices will exchange data with speed up to 4.8 Gbps, which is ten times bigger than USB 2.0. Another big advantage of new USB port is its ability to receive and send data simultaneously, which is a no-go for previous USB generations. New USB 3.0 will keep the downward compatibility with all previous USB versions, so do not worry if your device will not support USB 3.0 - it will work with it anyways, at supported speed.

New generation of USB connectors opens a wide field of possible adaptation. Speed up to 4.8 Gbps will be enough for HD video and audio signal broadcast, with such speed there will be no more "bottleneck" effect, when USB 2.0 speed is limiting the performance of external devices, such as portable HDDs or external optical drives. The cable will be a bit thicker though, but this cannot be really considered as disadvantage. In any case, small increase in thickness is reasonable for such big increase of speed. There are images of new USB 3.0 connectors, including redesigned miniUSB and USB 3.0 type B. (click to enlarge)

Bracelet media player made of e-paper

Jewelry is created notonly to emphasize individuality of a person, but also was worn to be useful to him. Now we simply get lost among a huge variety of rings, beads, bracelets. The company Chocolate Agency has offered the optimum decision with its unusual jewelry. Their multimedia gadget is an unusual bracelet. This gadget in my opinion does not compete with earrings with camera built in but it still a very cool device.

This gadget does not have an ordinary display. Isn’t it perfect? It completely consists of e-paper. Due to its properties the display is thin enough and is also flexible. You can watch favorite movies or the video clips, the only thing you need to do is to unroll the bracelet.

One of the advantages of the submitted gadget is that it will be charged from kinetic energy of the man who carries it. Not sure where those kinetic elements are placed but the idea is pretty cool.

So, the bracelet is compact, interesting with its exceptional characteristics and much more – it looks wonderful as jewelry.

Customer Reviews
Sony Digital Recorder
By Fred Mealio (Perrin, Texas United States)
For a small recorder, this does a good job, I think that this is a good deal. The price was good and the quality of the unit is better than I was expecting.
I use the recorder to record an open meeting and the pickup is great, I can record someone from across the room as well as someone close by. The software is easy to use and this permits burning to a CD a snap

Great for lessons
We are very pleased with our Sony Digital Voice Recorders. The one we purchased from you is our third, and we received the best price from Amazon. We use them to take to record music lessons. It is very helpful to hear the lesson again "from the outside" so to speak. My son uses his with his French horn and flute lessons, and I with my voice lessons. The sound quality is very good when not using the internal speaker. It is easy to plug into the computer or into my i-Pod speaker system. I have edited and downloaded some lessons onto my i-Pod itself. My husband uses his for dictation and uses it with "Dragon-speak" to transcribe into his Word program.

great product
it's so light and easy to use. i use it to record short interviews. i give the person a set of questions and they record it themselves. no one has had any problems with it and the playback sounds great.

Good Microphone
The microphone works great. I left it on during a meeting in my shirt pocket, was wearing a jacket, and it still picked up the conversation well. The speaker may not be great, but it works just fine for voice recordings.
I gave it four out of five because of the speaker and the styling could be better

Really great recorder
By J.W.
This recorder is really small and easy to use. I love that there aren't any tapes to buy, which is more garbage for the environment. I also highly suggest using RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES, it's good for the environment, and this thing can eat up batteries if you use it often enough.
I haven't tried putting the recordings into my computer since I still have about 20 hours of recording time left (in High Quality mode). This is good for recording lectures. I really like this product so far. I'm not sure if there's a mode where you can hear all your recordings continously because I haven't really read the manual.

Holux GPSlim 236 Slim Bluetooth GPS

Holux GPSlim 236 Slim Bluetooth GPS Sirf III laptop PDA PALM IPAQ PC Receiver
The Holux GPSlim236 Wireless GPS Receiver with SiRF-Star-III high sensitivity built-in chipset is an easy-to-use trip-guiding tool. You are able to enjoy brand-new experience in driving with Bluetooth technology of GPS Receiver, and have GPS connection without a cable. It's more convenient and flexible. Enjoy the GPS life!

Failure of Bluetooth means poor choice
Such a promising device. Worked great with Google Maps on my Blackberry right until the Bluetooth stopped working. Many people seem to have this problem and Holux support is non existent.

Still great almost two years after purchase
I purchased the Holux GPSlim 236 almost two years ago and it still works perfectly. I use it [along with iNav iGuidance software] daily and have never had a moments problem. It sits on the dash of my car all day, every day and continues to amaze me with its performance. It initializes quickly and always has enough satellite coverage to find my location. This poor gps receiver has been ABUSED and never gives up. It has been thrown from my dash more than once [during spirited driving] and it still didn't lose its signal. All in all, one of the better tech purchases I have made.

Garmin Forerunner 205 Wrist-Mounted GPS Fitness Computer

Awesome device for marathon runners
This is a great device. I was shocked by how well it works and all it can do. I no longer have to run on pre-planned routes to keep track of my mileage. I don't have to worry about pace or distance in races that don't have mile markers. All this information is on the watchface and can be uploaded to my computer and permanently stored at the touch of a button. It also keeps track of calories burned and shows your routes in gps format on the computer. It is extremely user-friendly. The only drawback is the size. I have a small wrist and it is kind of heavy. Definitely worth its weight though. I'm sure Garmin is working on this aspect for future models. If there is a distance runner on your X-mas list--this is the ultimate gift.

Just when you thought Garmin had cornered the market on powerful, affordable, and effective wrist-mounted GPS devices, here comes the Forerunner 205. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 205 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 205 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. While the 205 doesn't offer heart rate monitoring, or connectivity with Garmin's wireless speed and cadence sensor -- for that, you'll need to step up to the Forerunner 305 -- but it's a great way to get basic GPS location and performance data.

With the Garmin Forerunner 205, form meets function with a sleek and stylish personal trainer. Designed for athletes of all levels, this running partner and personal trainer tracks your every move with a super-sensitive GPS. The GPS tool even works on tree-covered trails and near tall buildings. It continuously monitors your speed, distance, pace and calories burned so you can train smarter, more effectively. Don't let their good looks fool you -- these taskmasters will continually push you to do your personal best. Virtual Partner lets you train against a digital person at specified time, distance or pace goals AutoScroll cycles through data pages during a workout Auto Pause pauses and resumes training timer based on a specified speed Easy to use - No calibration required, just turn it on and go Multi-sport capability lets you transition between sports without resetting -- you can use it for running, biking, and more Customizable screens let you view up to 12 data fields on 3 data screens for immediate feedback Lap Memory - 1,000 laps Rechargeable internal lithium ion battery - life of 10 hours (typical use) Waterproof - Submersible in one meter of water for up to 30 mins. Transfer data from Forerunner to your PC for a detailed analysis of your workout Create, schedule and download workouts to your Forerunner View data for each workout, including your heart rate, time, distance, speed, pat Display Size(WxH) - 1.3 x 0.8 (33 x 20.3 mm) Physical Size(WxHxD) - 2.1 x. 7 x 2.7 (53.3 x 17.8 x 68.6 mm) Weight - 2.72 oz.
